DNA Testing
At Genetica DNA Laboratories, we use the most proven and advanced methods of DNA technology. Currently, two technologies exist for use by the laboratories accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks. These technologies are PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism). Genetica DNA Laboratories uses BOTH of these technologies.
DNA Testing with PCR
In the PCR method of testing, DNA is first isolated from the sample. Individual gene fragments are then synthetically produced in the laboratory and they are labeled with special fluorescent tags. These fluorescent tags enable us to detect the genes with a laser.
DNA Testing with RFLP
In the RFLP method of testing, the DNA isolated from the sample is cut into fragments by enzymes. Then, an electric current is used to separate DNA fragments by size. The separated DNA fragments are identified with DNA probes. These probes are pieces of custom made DNA that bind and identify a specific gene locus.
Genetica DNA Laboratories uses BOTH of these technologies because each has distinct advantages and applications in providing you with our guaranteed results. We hold national reputation for performing very extensive DNA testing in all cases. Very extensive DNA testing means extremely accurate DNA results.
